Remedial Damp Treatment

We are pleased to report that the remedial damp treatment has now been completed inside and outside of the hall. We think you'll agree it is a very neat job! We are hopeful that this will sort out the damp that had affected the understairs store cupboard.

New Calendar

We have also begun a transition to an online booking system for the hall from the beginning of April, on this website.  We hope that you will find it easy to use, but if you have any difficulties, please do get in touch.

Grants

The Memorial Hall is grateful to the 3R Foundation & Charity Shop (in Carnforth) for their donation of £833 recently, to the Memorial Hall for two extra radio-controlled smoke detectors which have now been installed under the stage and in a store cupboard. Both of these areas are close to the main fire exits and they give us the confidence that should a fire break out there we will get an early warning and will be able to evacuate safely.

The charity is providing a lifeline to many groups and small charities in the area and their shop is well worth a visit and your support.

We are also delighted to tell you that a grant from Lancashire Environmental Fund has been awarded, which will enable us to fund the building work required to eliminate damp in the wall under the stairs and in part of the men’s toilet. However, as a significant part of the work will include the front door area, this will have to be closed off. Therefore, it is planned that the work will commence at the school half term in February, so that all users of the hall can still access the hall via the Small Hall entrance, at the other end of the building.

There may be a short period during these works when access to the men’s toilets may be disrupted. An alternative will be provided.

Slyne with Hest Newsletter

We are delighted that the first issue of the newsletter has been printed and distributed to homes in the parish by local volunteers. Do get in touch if you think you should have received one and didn't. Alternatively, you can read the newsletter on this website (a link is in the navigation bar at the top of the homepage).

The newsletter has been produced by volunteers in the village, and the local advertising is paying for the printing costs. We hope to produce a newsletter 3 times a year which will be available in January, May and September that will become your go-to place for finding out what is going on in our community.  If you belong to a group in the village and would like to have an article included, please get in touch. Contact details are in the newsletter.

Would you like to join The Friends of Slyne-with-Hest Memorial Hall?

The Memorial Hall is popular venue for a wide range of community groups as well as public and private family functions. It is run by a charitable trust and all the running costs come out of the room hire fees. Since the fuel price increases, it is becoming more difficult to maintain the room hire prices at a level people can afford, whilst continuing to pay the bills and repair charges. The trustees are looking at ways to improve the carbon footprint of the hall and thereby reduce the heating costs.

If you value this village asset and would like to help by making a small annual donation, it would be a valued contribution to preserve this community building within our midst. Do visit our website slynewithhest.org.uk and check out the calendar of events and see how the hall is looking 100 + years on from its opening!
